VB to C#

Skip Navigation LinksHome :: ASP.NET :: C#

Every three years developers need to upgrade our skills to the latest technologies. This usually due to employers wanting the latest buzzwords on CV’s.
As a long time VB guy I resisted C# longer than most. After all, VB and C# compile to the exact same IL code for execution. So VB and C# perform exactly the same (I’ve proved this by testing) and it should be merely a lifestyle choice as to which to use!
However, once you start c-sharping you discover that you can write more efficient code. All those features (available in VB too) that you’ve never used start making sense.
C# is unforgiving compared to VB so you start getting even more disciplined (anything slightly ambiguous won’t even compile, let alone make runtime).
It’s an uphill slog but remember, being a (relatively) new language every other C# developer was a VB developer first, and faced the same pain as you!
